President’s Desk If you’ve visited Tahurangi Lodge recently you will have noticed the new bench top oven that Greg has installed. Just a bit more capacity than the old one, this one can turn out scones, pizza and even a roast! We’ve also replaced the old sandwich press with a much more capable model. FMC Membership cards will be mailed out to all financial members early next week. FMC no longer prints the handout listing all of the Discount providers, however you can access this from FMC website: www.fmc.org.nz/discount-card/ If you stay in the back country huts frequently it is […]

Obituary – Russell Braddock

Russell Braddock The Kiwi mountaineering community was hit this week of the sad news Russell Braddock, a well known and respected mountain guide, was killed in an avalanche in France. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those he left behind. NZ Herald – ‘One of NZ’s best’ killed in […]

Trip Report – Larapinta Trail, Australia

Officially listed at 223km long, it seems by most accounts to be much longer than that. Indeed half of the trail that I GPS’d, I found longer. An Australian we spoke to that had GPS’d the trail twice found it 280 […]

HiTAC May 2016

President’s Desk The club is urgently looking for a new Treasurer. This is not a particularly onerous task, and no special skills are required. The club uses a very user-friendly cashbook system called Banklink, and the other part of this job is maintaining the Membership Database. Please contact me if you think you might be able to help out. After being without a Trips Officer for some time, we are thrilled that newly elected Exec member Sophie Tucker has offered to take on this role. Sophie is enthusiastically planning some winter trips out of Taranaki, so watch the Facebook page […]
