HiTAC April 2022

President’s Desk

Thanks to those club members who turned up at our recent AGM amid gathering restrictions. A full committee was elected and have already hit the ground running to help maintain and continue to grow the best alpine club in the country (Thanks Ivan).

For those of you who could not make it to the AGM an updated committee list will be on the club website shortly. In the meantime myself and the carrying over 2021 committee welcome Finn Gable as Club Captain and Equipment Officer who many of you will have seen on the mountain taking as much advantage of the wealth of experience from our seasoned club members. Finn now gets the opportunity to pay forward that knowledge by organising our winter instruction programme and dishing out club gear. I am sure he will be calling on those seasoned club members frequently as he gets to grips with these roles.

We are also grateful to have two new committee members Don Paterson with many years experience as a professional outdoor instructor and Jeff Delilla a competent rock climber and the absolute zen of calmness in any situation I have seen him in so far.

Also thanks to Andrew Jordan for agreeing to step up to vice president after serving as a committee member previously.

The New Club database and invoicing system appears to be working well as intended and by reducing the amount of manual data entry by our club volunteers will hopefully see them out from behind a screen on the mountain more often.

A club trip to Whakapapa, Mt Ruapehu was unfortunately postponed the weekend just gone. Trips Coordinator Lindsay Stones and recently recruited Assistant Tess Pope are optimistic to reschedule a potentially chillier trip for sometime in May. High Fuel prices deterred some but not all to salvage the weekend and head to Wharepapa for some full pitch rock climbing which you can check out the success of in the trips section below.
