HiTAC August 2019

President’s Desk

Hi everyone,

Well this month has been productive, despite generally inclement weather, congratulations to the Snow Craft 1 and 2 candidates who stuck it out last weekend despite the wet conditions and a big thanks to the instruction team for biting the bullet and getting it done. This weekends course looks like it will be more pleasant conditions however. Such is mountaineering.

Kevin Conaglen is working up a proposal for a club trip into the Hopkins Valley in early January 2020. His plan at the moment is to set up a base camp at Elcho Hut, from where parties can head off and have a crack at various peaks and projects. The intention is for the trip to be suitable for all levels of mountaineering. TAC may provide funds to subsidize travel or chopper gear in to base camp if there is enough interest. At this stage Kevin is looking for expressions of interest, so please let him know if you are keen. The trip really needs 10 – 12 people to go ahead.

So I’m sure you’ve all noticed that our webcams are back up and running  and this is due to the efforts of Greg Banks and Carey Clow, who sourced and installed the shiny new cameras. Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Ivan Bruce
El Presidente!
