A big thank you to all those members who made themselves available for the Open Climb last weekend. Unfortunately a disappointing weekend for club members and participants alike, as the weather didn’t play ball. Due to the decision not to attempt the event on the Sunday, we have offered participants a 90% refund of their fee, as a matter of good faith. Happy new year everyone and welcome to 2018. First up is the Club Barbecue on Thursday 1st February at 6.00 pm at the usual venue Audrey Gale Reserve, Merrilands Domain. The club will supply a barbecue, just bring along your own meats, salads and drinks and don’t forget your cricket gear and togs for a swim. The Open Climb registrations opened early December and at the time of writing there are 132 participants registered. We’ve had a huge number of entries for the club’s Annual Photographic competition and these are now with the judges. There are some incredibly beautiful photos in the competition. I hope you are all planning to get along to the Plymouth Hotel this Thursday at 7.30 pm to hear mountaineer Lydia Bradey’s presentation. Lydia is being hosted by the Taranaki Alpine Club and this event takes the place of our usual club night. In 1988 Lydia became the first woman to summit Everest without supplemental oxygen. Lydia is an IFMGA Mountain and Ski Guide, and guides in New Zealand and overseas, especially at higher altitude.This is an evening not to be missed! Hi everyone, Just a reminder that the feature event for October club night is the Open Climb induction. Attendance is essential for all of those club members who would like to help out with the Open Climb on Saturday 17 February 2018. Following the induction we’ll be watching a climbing movie called “The Long Hope”. This weekend saw the first Snowcraft One course take place.
