HiTAC January 2025

From the President’s Desk

Season’s greeting clubbies!

Hope you have some fun, relaxation & some great activities planned for the summer break!

As some of you may be aware we had to change the club night for December, and sadly the numbers were quite significantly reduced, so moving forward we are going to keep club night to the first Thursday of the month as per usual. This means the February club night will be 6th February with the traditional social BBQ at the river. See below for the details, and keep an eye out on Facebook, too.

Congrats to Jeremy Beckers for winning the overall photo competition and Brendan Larsen as runner-up. Margie, the photo competition judge, said the entries this year had stepped up a notch from last year’s entries, so we can all be proud of our efforts!

In my excitement recently to receive notification from DOC about an approved concession, I mistakenly thought it was the Open Climb concession, when in fact it was Tahurangi Lodge concession — which is great news, also, that we have been granted 10 years! So, what does this mean for Open Climb? I have been in touch with DOC and they don’t think our 10-year application will be processed prior to the date of the 2025 event. So, DOC have kindly put together a support application on our behalf for a one-off concession.

At this stage we have just about finalised the volunteers for Open Climb. If you are available on the 15th February and haven’t let me know, please get in touch. An email will be sent out over the next week or so to all volunteers, so you can get familiar with the role you have been assigned.

Since we have no Club Night or HiTAC in January it’s important to look at our Facebook page for events, or last-minute trips that have been planned.

We had some changes on our membership platform Hello Club, so if you are having any issues with signing into your membership, please get in touch and I will support you to get this sorted.

Well, that’s it from me – now go have way too much over the summer break!

Sheryl Hamilton
Madam President
