HiTAC October 2025

From the President’s desk Well folks the new mattresses have arrived and are currently stored in my garage! When the snow melts, we will apply for road access to get them up to the lodge. I’ve had a couple of people request use of the old ones we are retiring. The deal is I’m happy to gift the old mattresses to new homes, but those people will be required to be available to help us the day of the switch over. In fact, we are going to require several volunteers that day! It doesn’t seem far, the walk from translator […]

HiTAC September 2025

From the President’s desk I have to admit that I have been overseas topping up my vitamin D in sunshine and have let the very capable executive team to keep the wheels of TAC turning! I was pleased to see that nature supported us this year with great snow levels so both Snowcraft 1 courses could go ahead, plus the more challenging Snowcraft 2 course also. A big thanks to all the leaders and assistances that donate their time & knowledge so our members can feel more confident in the white stuff! Some exciting news is I am currently working […]

HiTAC August 2025

From the President’s desk Finally, we have some snow to play in. As I type, our first Snowcraft 1 course is in progress. Thanks to Andy & Jo Thompson for being our leaders for this one. Snowcraft 2 is next weekend led by Dave Bolger & Fletcher Miles, then the last Snowcraft 1 with Steve Ritson & Finn Gable. Very grateful that we have such skilled leadership teams that are willing to grow & guide our members. I have had a good cull of unpaid members this year and have cancelled the fobs so entry to the lodge is no […]

HiTAC July 2025

From the President’s desk We celebrated 90 years of having a structure on the side of Taranaki Maunga in our usual style with lots of good kai & laughter. And by the time you read this we will have had Mid-Winter Christmas & Movie Night at the lodge – always a winner! We are so blessed to have a fantastic facility that allows us to host memorable events. Buddy walks have kicked off, snowcraft courses are filling up, so now we wait for more snow to arrive and hang around for awhile! I’ve had a meeting with DOC recently relating […]

HiTAC June 2025

From the President’s Desk Kia Ora Koutou, We have been teased with a bit of snow showing up and melting away just as quick! Be aware the conditions on the maunga are now changing quickly, so make sure you have those extra layers & that wet weather gear in your pack! Our last big job of this year has been completed! We got the septic tank emptied! A big thanks to the small crew who knew what was required & got it organised. Also, our thanks go out to DOC for their support with loaning us the pump! This job […]
