HiTAC November 2024

President’s Desk You may or may not have noticed I haven’t been at club nights recently. I’ve been away on Te Araroa trail in Northland. I have had to leave the trail due to a foot injury sadly. However the committee continues the preparation for the working bee that’s happening in November. Next time you’re relaxing at the lodge, look around for the latest “Wilderness” magazine. Within the pages there are good tramping suggestions and product reviews. See you at our next club night. Sheryl HamiltonMadam President Read More: HiTAC November 2024

HiTAC October 2024

Presidents Desk Spring has brought a lot of rain to our region with a good dump of snow, unfortunately the snow doesn’t hang around that long. I do hope you got a chance to go and have a play on the hill. My last trot up to the lodge was to retrieve George Mason’s ice axe from the wall, to use in his guard of honour at his funeral. Sadly, George passed away on Friday 13th September. He will be sadly missed and his contributions to the club over the years have been outstanding. A good number of TAC members […]

President’s Desk Another month has rolled over with mixed weather conditions. I’m pleased to say the first of the three snowcraft courses was completed – thanks to Geordie, Finn, Glen & Pete for sharing your knowledge! Sadly the second course didn’t get the same luck! Our last pre-field course of the season has just been completed, so let’s hope those members get to go and learn in good snow conditions on the 24th August. My focus has been on concession renewals – I’ve been advised that the lodge concession renewal paperwork should arrive this coming week, so that’s great news. […]

President’s desk It’s a wet and miserable day as I write this, washing away the limited snow we had! Snowcraft 2 course went ahead with Dave, Fletcher & Geordie at the helm – thanks crew for sharing your knowledge & experience with our members! Some photos on Facebook – to prove they found just enough snow! Fingers crossed that we good a dump of the white stuff so Snowcraft 1 courses can go ahead! The committee is currently reviewing some of the club documents: The Constitution, Policies & Procedures, Safety plans, that sort of thing. These are the guiding principles […]

President’s Desk Kia Ora Koutou, Short and sweet this month team. As you are aware the Committee put in a submission for the Te Pire Whakatupua mō Te Kāhui Tupua/Taranaki Maunga Collective Redress Bill which has had its first reading and is now before the Māori Affairs Select Committee. On Monday 24th June our Vice President Ivan Bruce spoke to the bill at the New Plymouth District Council chambers on our behalf. We are aware that Stratford Mountain Club are also speaking to their submission and Egmont Alpine Club put in a written submission but didn’t request the right to […]
